Anyone know of a study of automobile occupants that intentionally open doors while the vehicle is still moving, fall out or jump out and get injured or killed?

FINDINGS

CONCLUSION
An accident involving an ABS equipped vehicle calls for a change in the way the scene is processed. In the past, evidence of hard braking (skid marks) were usually obvious and could be treated well down the priority list as long term evidence. The same driver action on an ABS equipped vehicle leaves evidence that is subtle and short lived.

The on scene procedure suggested by the group was to first check the front tires for the telltale speckling. These marks should be obvious, and will guide the investigator to look for more. The search for the ABS scuff mark should be made as soon as possible after the collision. Methods for preserving and identifying this evidence include good lighting, low viewpoint, and limiting roadway use in the area of the suspected scuff mark.

In the past, an understanding of driver action and vehicle movement was frequently based upon skid mark evidence. The tests done by this group indicate that with a bit of effort, the same information is also available from an ABS scuff mark.
